A hotel management degree is also completely different from BBA - Bachelor in business administration as a BBA degree primarily concentrates on business management & startups.
Business management degrees are never sufficient as one needs to obtain a master degree after graduation for career evolution. while The fundamental needs of human beings are food, beverage and shelter so there will always be demand for hospitality workers. Hence Hotel management degree will be a more preferable choice than other business management/administration degrees.
Bachelor in hotel management is a popular hotel management degree in the world which is a four-year course with the eighth semester and 120 credit hours. BHM is completely different from other bachelor degrees as it largely focuses on hotel operation & management. It is gaining popularity in Nepal also.
The core subjects in BHM are
1. Food production and patisserie - I, II, III
2. Housekeeping operation - I, II
3. Food and beverage service - I, II, III
4. Front office operation - I, II
The full mark, of four- year course, is 2000 so various other subjects are also included and studied in brief. It is both a theoretical and practical subject with three years of theory and a year of hotel Internship where students need to work practically in various departments of star-rated hotels. They can work either in domestic star hotels or in international stars hotels.
In Nepal, students finishing 10 + 2 from any colleges recognised by the university with English as compulsory subject & at least 45% in +2 can join for bachelor degree in hotel management after passing CMAT Test. CMAT is compulsory to test and only those students scoring a minimum of 40% in CMAT TEST will be enrolled for admission. CMAT test is very easy so, students don't need to worry about it. It consists of objective problems. After CMAT, Students will be interviewed by the respective college where they applied for. The total score of pupils will be calculated after adding of - 60% CMAT marks, 30% +2 marks and 10% interview marks.
Bachelor degree in hotel management is costly in the world but in Nepal, the course fee ranges from 5 lakhs to 10 lakhs. The fees vary in every college. There are many colleges providing bachelor degree in hotel management both in Kathmandu and outside valley.

Now, let's talk about salary and earnings. How much will you be earning after studying? Well, it depends upon the country. Tier 1 country have relatively much more salary when compared to Tier 2 and Tier 3 countries. Let's take the United States and the United Kingdom as an example where a Hotel manager earns between Nrs 80 lakh to 2 crores annually. Remember, the position is Hotel Manager where you must have great passion, dedication, Time Management and communication skill with Teamwork mentality. Tier 2 countries have a lower salary then Tier 3 countries. Tier 3 countries provide much less salary. Five-star hotels provide a much better salary and best working environment than other restaurants and small establishments. Promotion in the food production department in a hotel
